Dr. Darby Simmerman
Dr. Darby Simmerman, PhD, MS, MA, LPCC, is an Associate Level II clinician at COS North and via telehealth, with 5+ years of experience working with adults. She brings a holistic, person-centered approach that weaves together mind, body, and spirit, drawing on modalities including neurodiversity-affirming care, trauma and systemic recovery work, CBT, Brainspotting, Attachment Theory, Solution-Focused therapy, and the Safe and Sound Protocol (SSP), with training underway in the ADOS-2 autism assessment. As a mother to an autistic child herself, Dr. Darby has a deep, personal understanding of the neurodiverse family experience. Her specialties include anxiety, depression, grief (including pet grief), trauma, relational conflict, disability trauma, and faith and spirituality in client care. She is passionate about helping clients, especially neurodivergent individuals and families, regulate their nervous systems, unburden themselves from internalized shame, and rediscover a sense of hope, self-worth, and belonging.
A quick hello from Dr. Darby
I became a counselor because I am truly amazed by the resilience of the human spirit. Raised on a horse ranch, I know what it means to work hard, be patient, and embrace the unpredictable. Outside of the clinical practice, I spend my time outdoors and in nature, mostly having fun with my family growing our own vegetables, training horses, horseback riding, and hiking with the dogs in the mountains at home. I find my mindfulness moments sitting on the porch with a cup of coffee in my hand, watching my adorable chickens free-ranging and foraging for bugs and seeds around the forest having fun just being their cute chicken-selves!
